A total of 28 models have comprised the extensive list of candidates for the 2024 Car of the Year in Europe, with seven Chinese entries making up 25% of the overall competitors.
To provide a breakdown, Japanese cars constitute 21.4% (6); German entries account for 17.8% (5); North American models represent 10.7% (3); South Korean vehicles share the same percentage (10.7% with 3 models); France contributes 10.7% (3); and Italy is represented by 3.7% (1). Notably, China holds the largest share in the Car of the Year competition.
The voting process involves two stages. The first stage will yield a shortlist of seven nominees, scheduled to be announced on Monday, November 27th. The main winner of the prestigious Car of the Year trophy will be unveiled on Monday, February 26th, during the Geneva Motorshow.
All candidates must be newly available vehicles currently on sale or set to be released by the end of the year in at least five European markets. The Jury, consisting of 59 members from 22 countries, includes two Russian members who are presently suspended.
